Communications and storytelling

Write a short video script

Gives you a scene-by-scene script for a 60 to 90 second video.

Lower risk: public info only — Use public information and general stories.

Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.

Before you start, gather

Take [PUBLIC NUMBER] from your latest annual report or published results, and describe [TOPIC] with the same wording your website uses. Choose [ACTION] to match a real form or event you can point viewers to.

Starter prompt

Write a 60-second video script for [ORGANIZATION NAME] about [TOPIC]. We will film it ourselves on a phone with volunteers and no budget, so keep sets and props simple. Format as two columns: what we see and what we hear. Open with a hook in the first 5 seconds, include one number ([PUBLIC NUMBER]), and end with a call to action: [ACTION]. Natural speaking style, and tell people to ask before filming anyone who is not a staff member. Use the number I give you as written, and put MISSING INFO instead of guessing any other fact.

Paste the prompt into your AI tool first, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't use real names of clients or donors.

Open an AI tool

You are leaving this guide. Copy the prompt first, then open a tool. The link goes to the website of the company named on each link, in a new tab. That company's terms and privacy policy apply there. Paste the prompt in, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't enter real names or confidential details.

Check the result

Read it aloud to time it and catch awkward lines, and confirm you have permission for anyone shown.

What it might get wrong

A hook with a dramatic statistic of its own. Scenes that assume locations, props or actors you do not have. A spoken line that stretches [PUBLIC NUMBER] into a bigger claim.
