Reconcile real bank transactions
It sounds efficient, but real bank data holds account numbers and donor and vendor details.
Don't paste this into an AI tool — Bank transactions can reveal account numbers, donors and vendors, and the AI may make arithmetic mistakes.
A safer way: Ask the AI to explain the reconciliation steps and build a template, then do the actual matching in your accounting software.
Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.
Before you start, gather
Name your system exactly in [ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE]. Do not paste bank statements, account numbers or transactions into the AI. Do the real matching in your accounting software, and have a second person review it.
Starter prompt
Explain how to reconcile a bank statement against our books in [ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE]. Give a step-by-step process, a list of common reasons items don't match, and a blank reconciliation template. Do not invent menu names or screens; write CHECK instead of guessing about my software. Do not ask for my actual transactions.
Check the result
Follow the steps in your real accounting software and have a second person review the finished reconciliation.
What it might get wrong
Menu paths or report names that do not exist in your version. A template that skips outstanding checks or deposits in transit. Example math that does not balance.
