Draft a program logic model

Lays out how your activities lead to results in a simple chart.

Lower risk: public info only — Describe your program in general terms; leave out client details.

Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.

Before you start, gather

Take [ACTIVITIES] and [RESOURCES] from your program budget and work plan. Describe [WHO] and [PROBLEM] as in your latest grant proposal or needs assessment. Keep participant stories out.

Starter prompt

Draft a logic model for [PROGRAM NAME] at [ORGANIZATION NAME]. The program serves [WHO] and works on [PROBLEM]. Resources we have: [RESOURCES]. Activities: [ACTIVITIES]. Create a table with inputs, activities, outputs, short-term outcomes and long-term outcomes, and list assumptions we are making. Base outputs and outcomes only on the resources and activities I list; mark anything you assumed as ASSUMPTION and any gap as MISSING INFO instead of guessing.

Paste the prompt into your AI tool first, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't use real names of clients or donors.

Open an AI tool

You are leaving this guide. Copy the prompt first, then open a tool. The link goes to the website of the company named on each link, in a new tab. That company's terms and privacy policy apply there. Paste the prompt in, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't enter real names or confidential details.

Check the result

Ask your program team whether each link in the chain is realistic and whether the outcomes can really be measured.

What it might get wrong

Outcomes that sound measurable but have no basis in your activities. Invented targets such as 80% of participants. A long-term outcome your program could not plausibly cause.
