Create a one-page issue brief

Distills a complex issue into a page decision-makers can read in a minute.

Lower risk: public info only — Use public data and general examples.

Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.

Before you start, gather

Put only figures from named public sources, such as a government dataset or published report, into [PUBLIC FACTS AND SOURCES]. Include the year for each. Name the reader in [AUDIENCE], for example a committee staffer.

Starter prompt

Write a one-page issue brief on [ISSUE] for [AUDIENCE]. Structure: the problem, who is affected, key facts ([PUBLIC FACTS AND SOURCES]), what we recommend, and what we are asking for. Use short sections and plain language. Do not invent figures or sources; mark any fact I did not supply as MISSING INFO instead of guessing.

Paste the prompt into your AI tool first, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't use real names of clients or donors.

Open an AI tool

You are leaving this guide. Copy the prompt first, then open a tool. The link goes to the website of the company named on each link, in a new tab. That company's terms and privacy policy apply there. Paste the prompt in, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't enter real names or confidential details.

Check the result

Verify each fact and source, and mark any estimates clearly.

What it might get wrong

A statistic given for the wrong year, state or county. A source you did not list. A recommendation that sounds backed by evidence you never supplied.
