Donor and supporter relations

Write an in-memoriam gift acknowledgment template

Helps you respond to memorial gifts with care and the right words.

Lower risk: public info only — Keep the template general with role words; add the real names yourself, offline from the AI.

Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.

Before you start, gather

Keep [DONOR] and [FAMILY CONTACT ROLE] as role words, such as 'friend' or 'adult child'. Take [GIFT USE] from the gift's designation in your records. Leave [PERSON REMEMBERED] as is and add real names yourself, offline.

Starter prompt

Write a gentle acknowledgment letter template for a gift made in memory of someone. It should go to the donor ([DONOR]) and a version for the family ([FAMILY CONTACT ROLE]). Refer to the person remembered only as [PERSON REMEMBERED], and mention how the gift will be used: [GIFT USE]. Be sincere and brief, with no sales language. Do not invent details about the person, the relationship or the gift. Leave placeholders as they are.

Paste the prompt into your AI tool first, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't use real names of clients or donors.

Open an AI tool

You are leaving this guide. Copy the prompt first, then open a tool. The link goes to the website of the company named on each link, in a new tab. That company's terms and privacy policy apply there. Paste the prompt in, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't enter real names or confidential details.

Check the result

Read it for sensitivity, and double-check names and relationships before anything is sent.

What it might get wrong

Wrong relationship words, such as calling a donor the spouse or child; a cause of death or tribute detail it adds; a gift amount in the family version, when families are usually told only that a gift was made.
