Write a script for a board giving ask

Helps the board chair make a confident, comfortable ask for board gifts.

Lower risk: public info only — Write a general script without individual members' giving history.

Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.

Before you start, gather

Name [ORGANIZATION NAME] as in your materials. Have your board's written giving policy, if any, and last year's board participation rate from your own records. Afterward, add your own board giving expectation if your board has one, and keep individual giving history out of the AI.

Starter prompt

Write a short script for the board chair of [ORGANIZATION NAME] to ask fellow board members for a personal gift to the annual fund. Explain why 100 percent board giving matters, state that gifts should be meaningful to each person rather than a set amount, and thank them in advance. Do not invent giving statistics, gift amounts or board giving history; write MISSING INFO instead of guessing. Include a one-minute spoken version and a follow-up email.

Paste the prompt into your AI tool first, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't use real names of clients or donors.

Open an AI tool

You are leaving this guide. Copy the prompt first, then open a tool. The link goes to the website of the company named on each link, in a new tab. That company's terms and privacy policy apply there. Paste the prompt in, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't enter real names or confidential details.

Check the result

Rehearse it aloud, and make sure it fits your board's culture and written expectations.

What it might get wrong

A claim that 100 percent board giving is required by funders or law, invented giving statistics, and a suggested amount that your board never agreed to.
