Communications and storytelling
Rewrite a client story so no one can be identified
Helps you share powerful stories while protecting the people in them.
Take care first — Remove names, places, dates and unique details yourself first; paste only a version that is already stripped of identifiers.
Please note: This site is only a guide to help people understand. Consult your IT, security and/or privacy department for clarification.
Before you start, gather
Strip names, places, dates and unique details offline first. Then put only that cleaned version in [PASTE THE ALREADY-ANONYMIZED STORY HERE]. Pick [FORMAT SUCH AS NEWSLETTER] from where it will run. Keep consent forms and original notes out of the prompt.
Starter prompt
Below is a story that I have already stripped of names and obvious details. Rewrite it as a short, respectful story for our [FORMAT SUCH AS NEWSLETTER] that keeps the emotional truth but changes or removes any details that could help someone figure out who this is (ages, jobs, places, family makeup, timing). Do not add new events, quotes or dramatic details; keep any changed detail generic, and if the story is too thin to change safely, say so instead of guessing. Then list any remaining details I should check. [PASTE THE ALREADY-ANONYMIZED STORY HERE]
Paste the prompt into your AI tool first, then replace the placeholders with your own details. Don't use real names of clients or donors.

Ask: could a neighbor or coworker recognize this person? Label the story as a composite or as having details changed, get consent from the client when you can, and follow your privacy policy.
What it might get wrong
Replacement details that sound real but change the meaning. Mixed-in touches that accidentally recreate a real person's situation. Added quotes or feelings the original story never had.
